What we do
Ysgol Feithrin Pontypwl is a well established Welsh medium meithrin offering full day care and sessional care for children between 2.5 and 5 years old.
We offer 3 full days where children can stay from 09.30 - 15.15pm (children bring their own lunch) and 1 half day with a morning session on Tuesday .We also offer a Breakfast Club. Our Parent and Toddler Group Cylch Ti a Fi, meets on Thursday morning 10am - 12pm
At present we have around 15 children on our register and we would love to hear from anyone interested in a Welsh medium education, Please do contact us to arrange a visit. We would love to show you around. All 4 members of staff have years of experience working in childcare, and are dedicated, hard working and enthusiastic. The Nursery Leader and 2 other member of staff are first language Welsh speakers and 2 other staff members are experienced Welsh learners .
Who do we support
Ysgol Feithrin Pontypwl welcomes all families from Torfaen and the surrounding area who are interested in a Welsh medium education and are considering sending their children to a Welsh medium primary school. Although we do have some Welsh speaking families most of the families who attend do not use Welsh at home with their children. We offer details of Welsh classes and other resources for anyone interested! Our setting is not only a playgroup but also offeres nursery education for the children until they move on to the Reception Class. Children can access full day care 3 days a week. Ysgol Feithrin Pontypwl follows the New Curriculum for funded Non Maintained Settings in Wales. Children learn through play / help choose the resources /help us change and develop the play areas inside and outside and they also have a say in the daily routine. Having a range of ages means the younger children learn from the older ones and the older children learn to help the little ones.
Can anyone use this service?
Yes - our day nursery is open to all pre school children between two and a half and 5 who are interested in receiving a Welsh medium education

We are available: Term time only. Ysgol Feithrin Pontypwl opens for 3 full days (Monday, Weds and Friday and 1 half day on Tuesday. At present we are closed on Thursday morning

We offer a Breakast Club between 8.30am - 9.30am 4 mornings a week and provide all food. We offer a lunch club between 12pm - 12.45pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and children bring their own pack lunch. Children can access sessional care 4 days a week or full day care 3 days a week.

| Are you able to care for children whose main language is neither English nor Welsh? Ysgol Feithrin Pontypwl certainly welcomes families whose first language is not Welsh or English, if they are interested in a Welsh medium education. It is a well known fact that learning more than one language is very easy at an early age. We encourage parents and family members to get involved with the group and we would be interested in learning some new vocabulary with the child! |
