Direct Payments - Vale of Glamorgan - Family support services

What we do

Direct Payments (DPs) is an alternative way of receiving a service from the Vale of Glamorgan Council Social Services. DPs give the service user more choice, control and flexibility over their care package, as they are able to decide when, where and by whom their care needs are met. DPs enable people to buy their own community care or support services e.g. assistance with personal care, assistance to access leisure activities in the community, respite for carers. Many people choose to employ a Personal Assistant to help them meet their needs, although this is not the only way they can be used. The amount received by the service user is based on their assessment of need and paid on an hourly rate for weekdays and weekends. We have a support organisation who are able to support people to manage their payments as well as offering advice on matters such as employment law, budgeting, assistance with recruiting PAs and other general employment issues.
