Volunteer Interpreter - Education

What we do

The Mentor Ring is a community-based charity supporting individuals through mentoring and guiding people of all ages and backgrounds, helping them to overcome significant barriers to social inclusion. We believe that no individual should be excluded from active participation in employment, training, education, community life or social activities because of cultural, language, physical, mental or emotional health issues. The Mentor Ring’s mission is to empower individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to overcome barriers and reach their full potential. Through tailored mentoring, workshops, skill-building, and community events, we support education, employment, health, and social inclusion, fostering resilience, self-confidence, and integration. Our work creates lasting positive change across communities in Wales and England.

Who do we support

The purpose of the Volunteer Interpreter role is to bridge language gaps, enabling effective communication between non-English speaking individuals and the organisation’s staff, volunteers, and services. This role is essential in ensuring inclusivity, equity, and accessibility for all members of the community, regardless of their language proficiency.
You could be helping members of your community who do not speak English to communicate with others in their neighbourhood. You could be helping non-English speakers deal with essential situations where they need to speak to official people, such as doctors or solicitors. You could help a non-English speaker learn how to speak English by encouraging them to take classes and helping them with basic phrases.
