Powys Open Access Youth Workers - Children and young people's activities

What we do

The Powys Youth Service Open Access Team (PYS) offers a wide range of services to young people aged 11-25 across the whole of Powys delivered by a dedicated team of professionally qualified youth workers from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences. The Open access team prides itself on offering the young people we work with a top-quality service built around the needs and wants of young people as much as we are able. Given that our services are always voluntary and are tailored to be as open-ended for that young person as possible it is unsurprising that our team members are able to build a crucial professional relationships with the people we work with in our Hubs and Schools, often giving the youth worker a unique understanding of that young person and a better knowledge to tailor work to suit their individual needs over a substantial period of time which will lead to positive outcomes and enabling young people to make informed decisions about their lives and futures.

Who do we support

PYS offers open access youth clubs in Brecon, Llandrindod Wells, Newtown, Welshpool and Ystradgynlais which are typically open for 2 sessions per week during the school term. Each club has its own unique facilities and creates a robust programme of activities for each school term in close consultation with club members who are encouraged to choose activities that they know they will enjoy and covers a wide range of activities, events and more based around our core curriculum. Every High School campus in Powys has a dedicated PYS youth worker attached to it, typically for two days per week offering bespoke support and guidance to groups and individuals across a vast range of issues and areas as well as drop in sessions during break and lunchtimes.
