Cardiff Parenting Parent Nurturing Programme (18 months – 12 years) - Family support services

What we do

Helps adults understand and manage feelings and behaviour and become more positive and nurturing in their relationships with children and each other. It encourages an approach to relationships that gives children and adults an emotionally healthy start for their lives and learning.
As the building blocks of emotional health and relationship skills, the Nurturing Programme uses the Four Constructs:
• Self-awareness
• Appropriate expectations
• Positive discipline
• Empathy

The programme covers
Understanding why children behave the way they do
Recognising the feelings behind behaviour (ours and theirs)
Exploring different approaches to discipline
Finding ways to develop co-operation and self-discipline in children
The importance of looking after ourselves.

Who do we support

The Parent Nurturing Programme is best-suited to parents with toddlers, nursery and primary aged-children. There are 10 x2 hour sessions with tea/coffee break
We recommend that you come to all ten sessions as the programme fits together like a puzzle
You are welcome to come to the sessions on your own or with a partner or another relative who supports you in the care of your child. Please contact us if you are unsure.
The programme is delivered in an informal style with a group of approximately 12 parents.
Cardiff Parenting is open to any family with a child or young person aged 0-18 living in Cardiff. You could be a parent, a step-parent, a carer or a family member looking after a child. The adult or the child must live in Cardiff.
We provide funded, on-site crèche facilities for young children while parents are attending our groups. Please let us know about your requirements in advance. Welsh and other community languages available upon request
