What we do

The Registration Service is responsible for the registration of births, deaths and still-births, for taking legal notices of marriages and civil partnerships and for conducting ceremonies, including marriage, civil partnership, naming, re-affirmation of vows and citizenship ceremonies.

This page is designed to give you all the information you need to register a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership, book a ceremony or obtain a copy of a certificate.

The Register Office holds almost all the registers for all birth, death and marriage that have taken place in the county borough dating from 1837 to the present day. In addition all Caerphilly registration district civil partnership records from 2005 onwards are held. It is possible to request a copy certificate from any archived register.

Who do we support

All residents of Caerphilly and anyone wishing to marry within an approved venue in the Caerphilly Borough.

All members of the public to ensure their statutory duty to register events is facilitated and that they are able to arrange their marriages and civil partnerships in a timely manner. We provide assistance and advice to customers on all aspects of registration, citizenship and nationality

Other stakeholders by providing data for vital work on population statistics and medical research, ensuring the coroner is notified so that deaths can be investigated according to protocols and regulations, working with the Home Office to deliver its Public Protection and Counter Fraud agenda, supporting the clergy and authorised persons in their marriage services and delivering the Tell Us Once programme in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions.

Is there a charge to use this service?

Depends - The registration of births, deaths and stillbirths and the Tell Us Once service are free of charge. However, there are fees payable for certificates, giving legal notice, ceremonies and some corrections or updates to the legal records

Can anyone use this service?

No referral needed. Appointments must be booked in advance

To register a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership you will need to make an appointment.

Monday, 9am to 4.30pm
Tuesday, 9am to 4.30pm
Wednesday, 9am to 4.30pm
Thursday, 9am to 4.30pm
Friday, 9am to 4pm
Saturday, strictly by appointment only
Sunday, strictly by appointment only

There is no registrar available Monday to Friday between 12.30pm and 1.30pm to register births and deaths.
