Neath Port Talbot Parent Café - parent drop in session - Family support services

What we do

Parent Café is an exciting initiative and resource for parents in West Glamorgan.

Groups are hosted by parents in the community who are trained and accredited with support from a professional. The launch provides an in-person opportunity to experience the benefits for this way of working where parents and carers talk about what is important to them.

Discussions and activities help build the following protective factors which have been proven to be effective in strengthening families:
- Parental resilience – being strong and flexible
- Relationships and social connections – parents need friends
- Knowledge of parenting and child development – being a
parent is part natural and part learned
- Concrete support in times of need – everybody needs help
sometimes
- Social and emotional competence of children – parents need to
help their children communicate

Who do we support

The Parent Advocacy Network PAN and the Parent Cafés are for parents with experience of social services/child protection.

PAN will hold an informal bi-monthly parent drop-in session and alternate with the Parent Cafe throughout the year.

There will be a continued monthly parent session in the area providing parents with lived experience of child protection and statutory intervention an opportunity to connect, share and learn from each other. We aim to provide transport for parents to travel across the region to the Parent Cafes.
