Families First - Forward Steps - Resolven Building Blocks - Family support services

What we do

This service provides a wide range of support to help strengthen families affected by disability and will be available to families where a child has a disability or is on a pathway for assessment of diagnosis.
The service will also provide parenting support specifically for parents who have a learning disability.
The service will help improve the well-being of parents and families by offering a tailored family support plan that will also meet emerging needs of the families, children and young people during engagement with the service. Families will receive up to 16 weeks support dependant on their needs, and will be offered a dedicated 16 weeks support programme that has the flexibility to accommodate their direct needs. The programme will be delivered in modules and therefore families will be able to access the correct support programme for their needs. There will also be home visits to help implement support strategies and new skills learned.

Who do we support

Support will be offered in these areas :-
• Pre-diagnosis parenting support for parents whose child is on a diagnostic pathway.
• Pre-diagnosis support to help parents understand the assessment and diagnostic process and to advocate for the family.
• Post diagnosis information and advice.
• Post diagnosis support to understand and manage the disability.
• Peer support opportunities for parents/carers to socialise, share experiences with others and build confidence.
• Parenting support for parents with a learning disability.
• Emotional support for parents and families where a child has a disability.
Families will be provided with a robust exit strategy once their service has ended and will have the opportunity to take part in several review visits to ensure they are continuing to manage and implement the strategies given.
