Families First - Thrive Women's Aid - Family support services

What we do

The Domestic Abuse service will offer a suite of specialist interventions and programmes that are family focused and offer choice for families who have either left the perpetrator or who wish to stay together. This includes targeted and age appropriate interventions for children and young people of victims, victims and perpetrators.
The service aims to assess the family dynamic, identifying the primary perpetrators of abuse and offer a bespoke package of support to the whole family.
A multi-disciplined approach will be used to seek positive behaviour change in perpetrators, or those displaying unhealthy relationship behaviours, at the same time as offering support to victims and their children. This approach will produce change that lasts so that families can continue to benefit long after exit from the programme. The focus is on early intervention, working with families to prevent situations from escalating and protecting children from Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s).

Who do we support

While the focus is on children and young people, the service will protect and support all family members, with the goal of creating and maintaining safe and healthy households that support and nurture children and young people.
Parenting techniques will be improved and parents will be provided with the right tools and resources to support children and apply proven parenting strategies so that children have a suitable environment to grow and subsequently develop their own healthy relationships with wider family, friends and the community.
Each family will be allocated a key worker who will assess the families’ needs and produce an action plan based on what the family would like to achieve. The support will be tailored to meet the specific needs of the family and will be based on a range of interventions which will be age appropriate.
