Newport's Disabled Children's Index and Information Service - Family support services

What we do

The Information Officer, based at the Disabled Children's Team administers the Disabled Children's Index and provides an Information Service.

The Information Officer is available to parents and carers and can advise on and sign post to services and resources both in the voluntary and statutory sectors. The Disabled Children's Index allows parents and carers to register their children as disabled. The statistical information gathered is used to help Newport City Council to plan services and consult on issues that may affect parents and their child. The Index is voluntary. Information is held in the strictest confidence and only shared with other agencies when parental consent has been granted. Parents may remove their child's name at any time.

Who do we support

The service is designed to meet the needs of parents, carers and families of disabled children and young people for up to date and relevant information. The Disabled Children's Index is for children and young people under the age of eighteen who have a disability.

Is there a charge to use this service?

No

Can anyone use this service?

Both the Index and the Information Service is accessed via the Information Officer. A child or young person is eligible to go on the Index if he or she needs additional support from services because of a disability that will have lasted or is likely to last at least twelve months.
