Cardiff Parenting Strengthening Families Programme (for parents and young people aged 7-17 years) - Family support services


What we do

Families attend 11 weekly 2 hour sessions, usually held in early evening, meeting other parents with young people aged between 7-17
During the first hour, parents, children and young people meet in their separate groups coming together in the second hour to work together as a family
Strengthening Families is designed to help:
Parents build on their strengths in showing love and setting limits
Young people develop skills in handling peer pressure and building a positive future
Support PSE in preparation for teen years
Increase parents’ confidence in setting boundaries
Build confidence in young people
Young people set goals for their future and support goal achievement
Young people build skills to avoid problems with drugs and alcohol
Aid transition into secondary school
Develop empathy
Young people and parents identify each other’s positive qualities and strengths
Support parents to help their youth have a good experience of their teenage years

Who do we support

The Strengthening Families Programme is an 11 week course for any family living in Cardiff with young people aged between 7 and 17 years of age. Becoming a teenager can be a challenging time for youth and parents alike. The Strengthening Families Programme is proven to support parents & youth through this time of change.

Cardiff Parenting is open to any family with a child or young person aged 0-18 living in Cardiff. You could be a parent, a step-parent, a carer or a family member looking after a child. The adult or the child must live in Cardiff.

We provide funded, on-site crèche facilities for younger siblings, while the young people and their parents are attending our groups. Please let us know about your requirements in advance. Welsh and other community languages available upon request

We can support parents of children with disabilities to access the course. Support can vary depending on venue being used, but we aim to be a fully inclusive service.
